Are you on a stable methadone dose?
Help researchers learn how a new investigational medication and methadone work together while you stay with us for about a week and a half and earn close to $5,000.
What is this study about?
This is what's known as a drug interaction study. Researchers are looking at a new investigational medication that's being developed for a different medical condition entirely, but before it can be used more broadly, they need to understand how it behaves in people who are also taking methadone.
To find that out, you'll continue taking your regular daily methadone exactly as you normally would. At one point during your stay, you'll also be given a single dose of the investigational medication. From there, the study team will collect blood samples at different times to see whether that medication changes how methadone moves through your body.
To be clear, this study isn't treating any condition and it isn't changing your methadone treatment. It's simply checking whether these two medications can be safely taken together, which is important information for anyone on methadone who might need this kind of medication down the road.
Who Qualifies to Participate?
Because this study involves methadone specifically, we're looking for participants who are already established and stable on a methadone maintenance program. Here's a general look at what we're looking for:
One more thing worth mentioning: because this study is focused so closely on methadone, participants generally can't be taking other medications, supplements, or even most over the counter products during the study. If you're someone who takes methadone and little else day to day, you may be a great fit.
Study participation
Here's what participation actually looks like, from start to finish.
So altogether: 1 in-person screening visit, 1 inpatient stay of 9 nights / 10 days, and 1 follow-up phone call roughly two weeks later. That's it.
